🐱 My Cat Is Missing
Cats usually don't run — they hide, silently, very close to home. Search physically, don't just call.
1. Search a small radius, thoroughly
Most missing cats are hiding within a few houses of home — under decks, sheds, hedges, parked cars, and gaps under buildings. A frightened cat often won't come out even if it hears you.
2. Search at night with a torch
Cats are more active after dark and their eyes reflect torchlight, making them easier to spot. Go quietly and check low, tight spaces at cat height.
3. Use your voice, not noise
Call softly using a voice or sound they know (a treat bag shake, a specific word) rather than shouting. Then stay still and listen for a few minutes — cats often respond slowly.
4. Leave familiar smells outside
Put their litter box, bedding, or an unwashed piece of your clothing near the last place they were seen. Familiar scent can guide a nearby cat home.
5. Check with neighbours — sheds and garages especially
Cats often get accidentally shut in. Ask neighbours to check sheds, garages, and under mobile homes or campervans.
6. Update your microchip details and check local groups
